What Else Do They Remove?
In addition to calcium and magnesium, water softeners can also remove small amounts of clear-water (ferrous) iron and manganese. However, they are not designed to be primary iron filters.
What They Don't Remove
It's important to note that water softeners are not purifiers. They do not remove chlorine, lead, bacteria, viruses, or other chemical contaminants. For those issues, you would need a dedicated water filtration or reverse osmosis system.
