Getting Ready for Gardening
It's that time of year again! The snow has melted, and it's time to get the yard ready. Before you hook up the hose, take a moment to properly activate your outdoor plumbing.
Check for Winter Damage
Even if you shut off the water and drained the lines in the fall, severe cold can sometimes still cause damage, especially if the hose was left attached. When you turn the interior shut-off valve back on, do it slowly. Have someone stand outside by the hose bib, and have someone else listen closely inside near the pipe. If you hear water spraying inside the wall, shut it off instantly. A frost-free hose bib may have ruptured over the winter, and the leak will only be apparent when the water is turned on.
