How to Create Temporary Fixes for Leaky Pipes

When a pipe springs a leak, your first priority is to minimize water damage while waiting for professional help.

Step 1: Shut Off the Water

Immediately turn off the main water shut-off valve for the house to stop the flow and relieve pressure.

Step 2: Temporary Patches

• Plumber's Epoxy Putty: Knead the putty until mixed, then press it firmly over the crack or hole. It hardens quickly to form a seal.
• Pipe Repair Clamp: A rubber pad clamped down over the leak with metal brackets.
• Rubber and Hose Clamps: Wrap a piece of heavy rubber (like an old inner tube) around the leak and secure it tightly with adjustable hose clamps.

Remember, these are only temporary fixes to hold you over. You must have a licensed plumber permanently repair or replace the damaged pipe section.
